There’s something really satisfying about watching characters that you can relate to on-screen. Thankfully, ENTJs don’t have to look too hard to find them. Whether it’s awesome problem-solving skills, buckets of charisma or tireless dedication to their jobs, there are lots of characters in Hollywood that ENTJs can admire.

Here are 10 movies ENTJs will love. And 3 they’ll probably hate, just to balance things out!

Movies ENTJs Will Love

  1. Ocean’s Eleven

Ocean’s Eleven has got everything that ENTJs love: planning, teamwork, courage and charisma. A story about pulling off the ultimate heist, Ocean’s Eleven is bound to appeal to the personality type that gets genuine enjoyment out of doing their job. ENTJs will love the effortless cool of the main characters, especially Danny Ocean, a brilliant strategist and character that ENTJ dreams are made of.

  1. Hidden Figures

An incredible true story about three women working at NASA during the 1960s, this movie is all about inner strength and perseverance. The main characters’ unfailing commitment to their work, even in the worst conditions, is enormously inspiring. This is a story of the space race that has been hidden for too long and ENTJs will surely love it.

  1. Speed

As the ultimate planners, ENTJs will get a lot of satisfaction from watching Speed. This old-school thriller starring a young Keanu Reeves and even younger Sandra Bullock is all about moves and countermoves. You have to admire the level of planning that has gone into the villain’s disturbing attack and the quick-thinking of Reeves’ character whenever he comes up against a new challenge. Sandra Bullock’s character is also fantastic and together they make a seriously lovable team.

  1. Mr & Mrs Smith

This could be a divisive choice but I’m including it anyway because I love it. Mr & Mrs Smith follows the lives of a married couple living in suburbia who both find out that the other is working as an assassin.

Angelina Jolie’s character is the ultimate ENTJ. She’s uber-organised, efficient and single-minded. Then on the flip side you have Brad Pitt’s character, who’s spontaneous, slapdash and a little more sensitive. It’s the perfect movie for any ENTJ who has ever looked at their partner and wondered how the hell you came to be in love with them when you’re clearly total opposites.

  1. The Grand Budapest Hotel

Quirky, stylish and beautifully made, The Grand Budapest Hotel, is one of my favourite Wes Anderson movies. The film centres on the eccentric concierge of a remote hotel and his young protégé. ENTJs can appreciate their extreme dedication to their work as the pair always go above and beyond to ensure that the hotel runs smoothly. However, things quickly start to go awry when a wealthy guest dies unexpectedly. Watch this when you’re in the mood for something a little bit different.

  1. The Martian

As a story about determination and single-mindedness, The Martian is perfect for ENTJs. You might argue that Mark Watney, played by Matt Damon, is more of a ISTP or even an ENFP but I think his long-range planning, adaptability and grit put him firmly in the category of an ENTJ personality type. But then again, I’m biased.

  1. La La Land

One of the most talked about movies of 2016, La La Land is a tale of ambition. Emma Stone plays an aspiring actress trying to make it big in Hollywood. Though she has a tonne of setbacks along the way, she keeps reaching for her goals and refuses to compromise, something that ENTJs can definitely relate to.

Storyline aside, you also have to appreciate the execution of the film. The opening number is six minutes long, featuring 30 dancers, and was designed to look like a single shot. It required a huge amount of preparation and planning from choreographer Mandy Moore, something that any ENTJ has to admire.

  1. Gladiator

Everybody loves a classic tale of good vs evil and Gladiator is a great one. In this case, evil incarnate is Commodus, played by Joaquin Phoenix. But that just makes Russel Crowe’s character, Maximus, so much more righteous.

In the film that made his career, Crowe plays a noble and loyal soldier who can do no wrong. ENTJs will love Crowe’s character for his incredible leadership skills, including getting all the other gladiators on his side and organising them to work together.

  1. Molly’s Game

Starring Jessica Chastain as the ultra-ambitious and tenacious Molly Bloom, Molly’s Game is a great movie for ENTJs. Chastain’s character is direct, driven and not afraid to take risks. ENTJs will be able to relate to the moments when the other characters try to challenge her and disrupt her plans and the force with which she responds to threats. It shows both the good and the bad of the ENTJ personality type.

  1. Pirates of the Caribbean

I challenge anyone not to love Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. It’s the perfect family-friendly Sunday afternoon movie, chilling on the couch with a duvet and a big bowl of popcorn. There are ships, sea shanties and some of the best characters in the history of Disney.

I almost don’t want to admit it but I really found myself sympathising with Commodore Norrington, the lovesick antithesis to Captain Jack Sparrow, whose work ethic and unceasing confidence that he’s the one in the right makes me think he’s an ENTJ at heart.

And A Few ENTJs Will Hate!

  1. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

For the personality type that values personal freedom and control above all else, a story about a man locked in a psychiatric hospital is always going to be tough to watch. When you add in the character of the despotic Nurse Ratched too, ruling over the hospital with an iron fist, it gets even worse. Both the book and the movie gave me a knot in the pit of my stomach that wouldn’t go away. The sense of powerlessness makes it one of the movies I find impossible to watch.

  1. The Ugly Truth

I re-watched this movie recently and was bowled over by how toxic it is. For any ENTJs who have worked hard to accept their authoritative side (there’s no such thing as bossy only a boss), it is really awful. The worst part has to be the ending, when Katherine Heigl’s character breaks up with her boyfriend because she’s a “control freak” saying: “The time you fed me caviar, I was in physical pain. I hate being fed like a toddler. That’s how much of a control freak I am.” I felt like reaching into the screen and saying, “Honey, you’re not a control freak, you just have opinions.” Heaven forbid!

  1. Cheaper By The Dozen

If there’s one thing I hate in movies, it’s when things go horribly wrong and keep getting worse and there’s nothing the characters can do to stop it. Cheaper By The Dozen is one of those movies. It’s a super fun and relatable movie (especially if you have kids) but I can’t watch it. It stresses me out.

Do you agree with these choices? Which movies would you pick for ENTJs?
