4 Hot Careers for ENFJs

Clinically Reviewed by Steven Melendy, PsyD. on July 18, 2011

ENFJs are highly motivated by personal values and a strong desire to help other people. They tend to be humanitarians who strive to remain true to their visions of how to make the world a better place, and they're not only motivated by high ideals but they're also gifted with excellent organizational skills. Hot careers for ENFJs are those that allow these caring, idealistic people plenty of opportunities to make significant differences in the lives of others.

Nutritionist

If you're an ENFJ who would like to help other people improve their health and lifestyles, you might want to consider a career as a nutritionist. Most nutritionists are employed in hospitals and nursing care facilities. As a nutritionist, you'll work to develop healthy meal plans for patients. A good nutritionist should be skilled at organization and planning and have a strong sense of compassionate care for patients. To become a nutritionist, you'll need to earn a Bachelor's degree in foods and nutrition, dietetics or a related field, preferably a program that has been approved by the American Dietetic Association's Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education. Licensure and certification requirements vary widely from state to state.

Social Worker

An ENFJ who wants to assist people who are experiencing difficulties in their lives might wish to pursue a career as a social worker. There are several fields in which social workers can specialize, such as child and family services, public health, and mental health and substance abuse. To be an effective social worker, you'll need to function as a strong advocate for people in trouble and a source of assistance and inspiration to help them improve their lives. If you are interested in becoming a social worker, you'll need to earn a Bachelor's degree in social work (BSW). Depending on what kind of social worker you want to become, you might need a Master's degree (MSW), which tends to be required for medical and educational positions. Licensure as a social worker is necessary in all states, though the specific requirements involved can vary.

Minister

If you're a spiritually-oriented ENFJ, you might find great satisfaction as a minister. As a minister, you'll assist people with their spiritual needs. Ministers conduct religious services for churches and congregations. They are also available to members of their congregations for spiritual guidance and advice. They often officiate at ceremonies like weddings, funerals and baptisms. Most ministers feel that their path is less a career than a calling. There isn't a cut-and-dried route to becoming a minister. Many churches require that ministers be ordained, though this isn't always the case. If you'd like to become a minister, it would be a good idea to seek training at a seminary or a religious college, preferably one that's accredited with the Council of Higher Education Accreditation.

Human Resources Manager or Recruiter

An ENFJ who enjoys helping people embark on new career paths might want to look into becoming a human resources manager or recruiter. Since an organization's employees are integral to its success, organizations need people working on their behalf to attract the best employees. As a human resources (HR) manager, you would be supervising personnel processes and procedures. As an HR recruiter, you would travel to college campuses to attract new talent. You might also become involved with interviewing and testing job applicants. To become a human resources manager or recruiter, you will need to earn a Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance or a related field. Coursework in the behavioral sciences would also be helpful. You could enhance your employment and advancement prospects by earning a Master's degree in human resources, personnel administration or a related field.

Hot careers for ENFJs vary, but they all have a clear common denominator: helping and guiding other people. ENFJs feel driven to put to use their natural capacity for empathy and their considerable talents for organization to work in such a way as to improve the world in which they live. They get the most satisfaction from assisting those around them to better the conditions of their lives and work.

I have been a social worker for 50 years and it has been an ideal career for me. It allows me to transform into working with different population group so I have plenty of novelty which has satisfied my N and to grow and develop along with the folks I have come into contact with as the years tick by. I have also been able to put my entrepreneural skills into play by having my own business for one half of that time, being in a private practice by myself or in partnership with other colleagues.
